Versailles (band)

Versailles (known as Versailles -Philharmonic Quintet- in the United States) is a Japanese visual kei metal band formed in 2007 by vocalist Kamijo and guitarist Hizaki. After recruiting bassist Jasmine You, drummer Yuki and guitarist Teru, they performed their first show on June 23. Their key characteristics are their Rococo-esque costumes, dueling guitars and heavy but melodic arrangements. The group gained a significant worldwide following soon after forming as their debut EP Lyrical Sympathy (2007), released by Kamijo's own label Sherow Artist Society, received a simultaneous European release and they performed in Europe and the United States the following year. Their first full-length album, Noble released in 2008, was also released in North America in 2009.

Versailles signed to major label Warner Music Japan in mid-2009, however, on August 9, days after announcing he would be suspending activities for health reasons, Jasmine You died. Their major debut album Jubilee (2010) was completed with Hizaki performing the unfinished bass tracks. They went on a world tour that took them to Latin America and Europe and ended with new bassist Masashi officially joining. 2011 began with the whole band starring in their own television show titled Onegai Kanaete Versailles (おねがいかなえてヴェルサイユ, lit. "Fulfill My Wish Versailles"), that ran from January to March. Their third album Holy Grail (2011) was their highest charting, reaching number 12 on the Oricon, and was supported by their second world tour. On July 20, 2012, Versailles announced they would be stopping all activities at the end of the year. They released their last album, the self-titled Versailles, on September 26 and after a short tour, performed their last concert at NHK Hall on December 20.

Dianna St. Hilaire better known as Versailles is an American dark wave/synthpop artist from Los Angeles, California. She was born in Modesto, California and grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Teaching herself how to read music and play the piano at age 8, she spent most of her younger years in school choirs and friends bands. She temporarily gave up the idea of pursuing music, but began to write again at age 18 after leaving home. In 2001 she was in the movie Lockdown.Actress Dianna St. Hilaire, created Versailles Suicide in 2001 and later changed the name in 2003 to Versailles.

History

Early work

In 2002 Versailles created a 4 song demo under the name Versailles Suicide called "Fallen Angel" written by Dianna St. Hilaire and produced by Mike White. Off this album the track “Little Dead Kitten” was placed on the compilation CD, Burque Love 4.

In 2003 Dianna changed the name to Versailles releasing the Gothic/Industrial full length album Live Your Life released on Dianna’s own Label “Evileye Records”. That same year Versailles took her project into an even more industrial sound, leading to the release of "Kiss" on the Evileye label.

Cinema (Elaine Paige album)

Cinema is the fourth solo album by Elaine Paige. The album was released in 1984 on Warner Music, peaking at #12 in the UK album charts. This album has been re-issued on CD. It was the second of Paige's recordings to be produced by Tony Visconti. To follow the theme of Stages, Paige chose tracks that had been previously recorded for soundtracks. Like Stages, the recording was primarily conducted at Visconti's Good Earth Studios, other than for "Sometimes" (Theme from Champions) which had been previously recorded at CTS Studios, London featuring the New World Philharmonia.

Cinema (Yes song)

"Cinema" is an instrumental by the progressive rock band Yes, from their 1983 album, 90125. In 1985 it won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance, the band's only Grammy.

History

The 1980 incarnation of Yes included Trevor Horn, Geoff Downes, Steve Howe, Chris Squire and Alan White. When this group split up following the tour for the album Drama, Squire and White joined forces with South African singer and guitarist Trevor Rabin. The three were eventually joined by former Yes member Tony Kaye, and the four began writing and recording demos under the band name "Cinema".

Chris Squire played some of the band Cinema's recordings to former Yes lead singer Jon Anderson, who expressed interest in participating in the project. With four out of the five having been Yes members, it was decided to change the name of the band from Cinema to Yes. The title of the instrumental track "Cinema" is therefore an acknowledgement of the four-piece band that co-wrote and performed it, before Anderson joined and the band was renamed Yes.

Cinema is the fifteenth studio album by Italian classical tenor recording artist Andrea Bocelli.

The album featuring renditions of classic film soundtracks and scores, was released on October 23, 2015 through Sugar Music and Universal Music Group.

Background

The album was produced by David Foster, Humberto Gatica, and Tony Renis who also worked together on Bocelli's Amore in 2006.

Bocelli said of Cinema: "With the album ‘Cinema,’ I’m fulfilling a wish that I’ve harboured for decades. I’ve never made a secret of my dream of bringing to life a recording project associated with soundtracks, as I truly believe that it’s an exceptional artistic treasure trove."

Commercial performance

Cinema entered the Official UK Albums Chart at No. 3, behind 5 Seconds of Summer's Sounds Good Feels Good and Bryan Adams's Get Up!. The tally was Bocelli's highest UK chart position in over a decade, since 2001’s Cieli di Toscana, and his tenth Top 10 album on the UK pop charts, a record for a classical music artist.
